Calling All Angels
Mixed Media

​This is a mixed media project just right for all skill levels, from beginner to seasoned artist. Using wood pieces and parts, paper, paint, texture mediums and beads you will create a unique altered angel perfect for any season. All materials to complete this project will be provided.

Alcohol Inks 101:  Play & Learn
​Instructor: Chelsea *Sparks*
for ages 18+​

​Join Chelsea for some collective fun!
The workshop in alcohol inks doesn’t require any previous experience or a belief in “artistic ability,” just a desire to play and stretch your creative muscle. This class isn’t about making representational art, it’s about enjoying the way the translucent inks move around the special paper and exploring new ways to combine and manipulate them. Most people find it very relaxing and meditative, with a bonus of having beautiful art to take home in the end. This is a terrific class to take with friends, and a great place to make new ones!​

Spritzer bottle with gold Pinata alcohol ink
A variety of tools to use.

Alcohol Inks can get a little messy, so feel free to bring an apron.

Good JuJu Assemblage Wands

Explore the fundamentals of assemblage art, from simple clay sculpting and paint layering techniques, as you craft your unique talisman.  Your wand will serve as a beacon of positivity, guiding you towards peace, health, wealth, harmony, and love.  Unleash your creativity as you transform a doll's head into a unique wand.

Supplies provided for you:

• Doll head & stick-  you can bring your own doll head and I will do my best to help you make it work.  If it proves too challenging to attach your doll head to your stick, I will suggest you use the doll head provided.
• Aves Apoxy clay
• Sari Ribbons, assorted colors
• Some iridescent paints
• Adhesives
• Craft Heat Gun
• Wire, in assorted colors and gauges
• Paints, a couple to compliment what paints you bring
• ​Various other tools to use in making your wand
• Charms, buttons, found objects, jewelry bits and pieces, bones and found objects, of course bring any special items you'd like to include, but the basics will be provided

Silk Scarf Dyeing

Join Bette Brody for a fun and creative art class where you’ll learn to dye your very own 8"x72" rectangular scarves using acid dyes and white vinegar. The vibrant colors and softness of your scarf will depend on the amount of dye used. You'll be amazed by the immediate results as we use a simple heat-setting technique. You'll get to dye 3 scarves in this class.
This method, which Bette first learned about 10 years ago during a trip with friends, is easy, enjoyable, and perfect for creating unique, personalized scarves at home. Whether you're new to dyeing or looking to expand your skills, this class is designed to be accessible and fun for everyone.

Fairy Door

This is one of the most whimsical and creative workshops that Patti teaches. Come spend the day creating a door to a magical world of make believe. Several years ago, I read an article about the Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor Michigan. Urban Fairy Doors are located throughout downtown Ann Arbor, tiny doors found on the front of select businesses open to reveal "fairy homes." In my studio, I had a fairy door and most of the time it was a small child who would find it. Some even wrote letters to the fairies. This workshop will bring a little bit of magic into your life as you build your very own fairy door for your home. You can place your door inside your home in any room just above the baseboard. Other places you can place your door include a shelf, a bench or a cupboard. You can even create it to look like the door on the front of your house. In this workshop we will build and decorate a fairy door. Each student will be given a premade door that you will paint and decorated. We will use shrink plastic to make tiny flowers and create a wall to go behind our door. This is a great gift to surprise a small child. All materials will be provided. If you have something special to personalize your door, please feel free to bring it to class.

Legend has it that once your fairy door is attached, the fairies know, and they will visit.

Monoprinting Without the Press

​Welcome to our Gel Printing Plate Extravaganza! Get ready to dive into a world of vibrant colors, unique patterns, and endless possibilities. In this lively and hands-on class, we'll be unleashing our creativity through the magic of gel printing.  Imagine wielding an array of tools – stencils, rubbing plates, stamps, botanicals, and texture tools – as you embark on a journey to create your own decorative papers. With the gel printing plate as our canvas, you'll learn a multitude of techniques to craft one-of-a-kind prints that will leave you in awe of your own artistic prowess.

But that's not all – we'll be printing on more than just paper! Deli paper and fabric will also become your playground as you experiment with different surfaces and textures, expanding your creative horizons. The papers you create won't just be confined to the studio – they'll be versatile additions to your artistic toolkit. From journals to collage, framed artwork to cards, your prints will infuse a touch of whimsy and personality into any project they grace.

Cigar Box Workshop

The Cigar Box workshop has certainly been a fan favorite of Patti’s for a long time. So come spend the day with Patti and learn the art of paper engineering and the proper techniques that result in a beautifully embellished cigar box. Your design will incorporate the beautiful foil decorations already on the box. You will learn the skills of accurate cutting and placement of paper required to achieve stunning results. A full collection of papers to choose from, a set of box feet, cigar box, adhesives, knobs, and embellishments, are all included with this class.

Strip Club
Instructor: Patti Euler
for ages 18+​

Ok... I know what you are thinking! Workshop Disclaimer, there is no pole dancing involved in this workshop, but there is sparkle and glitter! This is the next evolution of Patti’s most popular workshop, Paper Mosaics. In “Strip Club” you will create several handmade or altered sheets of paper using a variety of paint techniques, mark making and stamping…and we will also use the same torn paper technique from Paper Mosaic. Gold leaf, and glitter add bling to this project. (glitter optional!) However, this time instead of squares, we cut the handmade paper into strips and arrange them in a different manner. You have the option of including text papers, vintage papers, Gelli prints and some scrapbook papers to add into the mix. I will show you how to cut your papers to get a good fit and we will discuss the options of different adhesives and different ways to finish your project. You will leave with a beautiful 10 x10 panel that is ready to hang on your wall.

Alcohol Inks 202 : Take it further

Instructor: Chelsea Sparks
for ages 18+​

Did you fall in love with using alcohol inks in your class in Chelsea’s 101 class?  Well, she’s been cooking up a follow-up class for those of you that want to continue to explore more possibilities of the medium. She’ll introduce a few more techniques and paper options. You’ll take your alcohol ink work to a new level. This time you’ll try different papers and add some more techniques to your toolbox. You will work longer on a couple larger pieces with color selection and composition in mind. This class requires previous experience in using alcohol inks, Chelsea's Alcohol Inks 101 is ideal.

What to bring:

• Your alcohol ink basic tool kit:
  • Apron
  • Alcohol inks, a minimum of 6 colors that you like to work with.
  • Tools you like to use to manipulate alcohol inks (items from 101 class are perfect)
  • Small bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol​​

Honey, I Shrunk the Flowers

Instructor: Patti Euler
for ages 18+​

The fascination with watching something big shrink into something really tiny never gets old. I loved doing Shrinky Dinks when I was young, and I love using the professional quality Shrink Plastic that is available today. In this class you will use shrink plastic and several silicon molds to form and create beautiful flower beads. Each bead will have several layers of petals that will be hand colored using colored pencils to add to the unique design of the flowers you create. You will learn how to make wired wrapped beads and a simple assembling technique will bring it together in a charming necklace. Accent beads, chain, and jewelry findings will be provided as part of the class. The number of beads you make are dependent on how detailed you make each flower. There will be plenty of guidance and assistance. All materials for the Necklace will be provided.

Student Supplies List:

• Colored pencils - Prisma color (is the preferred brand) or any other artist grade colored pencils. Student grade pencils such as Crayola and Rose Art are not recommended they have more wax and less pigment.
• Chained nose pliers and flat nose pliers.
• Patti will have a few jewelry tools to share, but you will be more productive if you have your own tools.

Whimsical Wildflowers

Instructor: Patti Euler
for ages 18+​

​Claybord is one of the most versatile surfaces on the market for artists to use. It’s an ultra-smooth hardboard surface coated with a thin layer of absorbent kaolin clay. It truly is the ultimate mixed-media surface due to the fact that it accepts more mediums than any other substrate; pigment, dye based, and alcohol inks, gouache, acrylics, airbrush, graphite, and many more. This ultra-smooth surface allows for unlimited techniques such as etching, erasing, adding color and removing color and scratching the color away to add contrast, texture and fine detail. This workshop will focus on the additive and subtractive properties of Claybord. The image will be stamped using a large ArtFoamie and we will use a variety of Claybord tools to create texture and contrast. I’m certain once you have tried this surface it will be one of your favorites. You will be provided an 8"x10" Claybord panel to use as your substrate.

​Piano Hinge Book
Instructor: Patti Euler
for ages 18+​

The Piano Hinge Book uses a unique binding and gets its name from the way the spine is woven together to resemble the hinge on the lid of a piano. This is Patti’s favorite binding style because you can construct this book using so many different papers and materials. This very distinctive binding is simple and fun to produce and allows for a lot of creative variations. We will be using bamboo skewers to weave the spine. This is the traditional material for the binding, but there are other options that could be used such as pencils, crayons, or knitting needles. Each student will receive a complete “Ink Drop” paper pad from Craft Consortium. The vibrant colors of this paper really showcase this binding, and there will be plenty left over to craft another book. The book is just the first part of this two-part class, because we are going to step it up a notch by altering a cigar box to create a decorated case for your box to stand in!​

​​Fabulous Fibers Weaving

for ages 18+​

Fabric and fiber has long been a favorite medium of Patti's to use in mixed media art. The Whimsical Weaving class is quick and easy and produces beautiful results every time. This is the perfect Recycle-Reuse art project! Creating just one will not be enough! You can raid your stash for leftover Ribbon, Fabric, Yarn, and even Old Clothes can be cut up and used. For a finishing touch add some old jewelry, charms, buttons, or a personal memento. Your project will be complete with a shadow box frame.

Paper Mosaics

​​Ever wonder what to do with all those paper scraps that you just CAN'T throw away? This is the ultimate recycling project.  Join us for Patti’s most popular workshop… ever!  Paper Mosaics: where bits of paper, gold leafing, tissue, and scraps become beautiful works of art. 
Many of her students have taken this workshop multiple times since the results are one-of-a-kind amazing.  The workshop is designed for beginning students as well as experienced artists. Using torn paper, glue, stamps, glitter, gold leafing and vintage paper you will create a collection of  beautiful 1x1 mosaic tiles.  You will leave with sixteen of the tiles beautifully framed in an 8x8 shadow box ready to hang or give as a gift. There will be plenty leftover pieces to use for cards, journals, scrapbooks, boxes and other framed art. Come into the shop to see the beautiful samples. The photos don’t do the project justice. The possibilities are endless!  Bet you can’t make just one!

Wild At HeART Mixed Media
​​Instructor: Patti Euler
for ages 18+​

​This is truly a mixed media art piece.  You will use a rectangular frame that holds three 4x4 square substrates to create your artwork.  Using layering techniques, the squares will be covered with texture paste, vintage papers, cheesecloth, and gesso.  Shrink plastic is the star of the show.  We will use specialized molds to shrink several images to add to the layered backgrounds.  Using paper clay, wire, charms, and beads, you will further embellish your surfaces.  The end result is a unique framed piece of art that will warm anyone’s heart, ready to hang or give as a gift.  This is a project we think you will do more than once.  ​

What Supplies should I have for the class? 
Supplies are listed for individual classes, but if you want a idea of useful things to have we have a Basic Tool Kit list below.  It is always a good idea to bring a notepad or some way to keep notes.  For classes that involve paints, an apron comes in handy as well.  

Will there be a lunch break? 
Classes that are more than 3 hours do have a 45 minute lunch break.  Our art studio is spacious enough for classes, yet with all the art supplies we discourage eating in the creating space.  With so many fabulous restaurants within walking distance we strongly recommend that you plan to treat yourself to one of the local spots. You can find a list of places here and our staff is happy to recommend their favorites.

Metered Street parking is available via coin payment with 2hr limits.  We strongly advise all our visitors to park at the Church Street Garage located at 17 East Church Street. Garage parking is $1 per hour. The 24-hour maximum weekday rate is $12. Maximum weekday nightly and weekend parking is $5. Parking is free on Sundays from 8AM-2PM, and hourly rate after 2PM.
